The County Administrative Officer (CAO) is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors. The CAO serves the legislative function of the Board by providing research, information and recommendations, and serves all of the executive functions of the Board by administering and supervising all County departments in matters that are the responsibility of the Board.
Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures
The goal of the Madera County Department of Agriculture is to promote and protect the agricultural industry of Madera County. Our office is dedicated to protecting California agriculture from the spread of destructive pests, promoting the safe and responsible use of pesticides to allow for the protection of crops, and protecting human health and the environment.
Madera County Animal Services is a county agency whose purpose is to provide humane and professional solutions for animal related problems, to encourage responsible behaviors, and to create a safer environment for people and animals to co-exist.
Our mission is to create equitable, timely and accurate property tax assessments to fund public services. We will strive to be a source of accurate and timely property information for local government and the community.
The Auditor-Controller is the chief accounting and disbursing officer of the County. The Auditor maintains the accounts of County government, School Districts, and most Special Districts.

To improve the lives of children by obtaining financial and medical support through locating parents, establishing paternity and support obligations, and enforcing those obligations.
Clerk of the Board
This department performs all acts required by law or by ordinance as directed by the Board; answers varied inquiries and provides information regarding Board actions; prepares the agenda for Board meetings and keeps official records of actions taken by the Board; plans, organizes, and directs the clerical services for the Board; and processes legal documents, notices, and orders of the Board.

County Clerk division is charged with issuing public and confidential marriage licenses, performing civil marriage ceremonies, filing fictitious business name statements, and other miscellaneous ministerial duties.
Elections/ Registrar of Voters
Elections is a division of the County Clerk-Recorder's office and is run by the County Clerk-Recorder.
This office records documents and files maps, and maintains cross-reference indices to these records. Documentary transfer tax is collected on transfers of real property.

The County Counsel serves as legal advisor in civil matters for all County offices, departments, boards and commissions, school districts, and other districts.
The District Attorney is responsible for criminal prosecution of all violations of State and County Law and also acts as legal counsel for the Grand Jury. The Department conducts investigations to supplement the work of other law enforcement organizations and originates investigations of persons suspected of illegally acquiring welfare resources through its Special Investigations Unit.

Among the responsibilities of the Department of Human Resources/Operations Division are recruitment and examination activities, employer-employee relations, salary administration, benefits administration, employee classification, processing of employee status changes, and a variety of payroll duties.
Madera County Information Technology is a professional customer service based organization that advances the County's delivery of cost effective and innovative public services, through coordinated application of technology.

Our mission is to serve the citizenry of Madera County by discharging the duties assigned us by California statutes. Since these duties are many and varied, our mission is multiple.
The office of Madera County Public Guardian is authorized by California Statute. In Madera County the Public Guardian also serves as Public Administrator, but the functions of the Public Administrator are seperate and apart from the conservatorship function.
The Madera County Public Health Department protects and promotes the health of our the community by means of preventive medical and educational services.
Resource Management Agency (RMA)
The Madera County Resource Management Agency is a service organization that facilitates the development for Madera County.
The County Engineer's office provides a variety of services related to land development and public works. The Engineering Department is responsible for all aspects of public works with the exception of roads and bridges and for all new construction and development on County-owned property.
Environmental Health consists of those organized activities undertaken to protect and enhance the public's health through the control of potentially harmful materials, organisms, energies and conditions in the environment. The term "health" is used in its broadest context to mean not just the absence of disease, but rather a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being.
The Madera County Fire Marshal's Office provides plan review and inspection services to all unincorporated areas of Madera County in order to implement the fire and life safety regulations and building standards established and adopted by the State Fire Marshal and County Board of Supervisors.
This division performs those activities that are not covered by other County Departments or as directed by the Board. This could include property management, land acquisition and acting as the County representative for the re-licensing process for electrical generation at Bass Lake by PG&E.
The Planning Department functions as the planning agency for the unincorporated area of Madera County, formulating and implementing the general plan and community plans, and coordinating land use considerations in accordance with the zoning ordinance.
The Madera County Road Department is responsible for the maintenance and construction of roads, culverts and bridges on the County's maintained mileage system excluding State Highways.
The County Sheriff is responsible for providing public protection and investigating crimes that occur within the unincorporated areas of Madera County.
The Department of Social Services is the largest department in the County. We are committed to the County's Mission statement: "To serve the public interest in a fiscally responsible manner by providing efficient, cost effective customer service, promoting public health and safety while creating new possibilities with partnerships through a diversified economy."
The Treasurer-Tax Collector receives, safeguards, distributes, and invests County, School District, and Special District funds; collects taxes; sells tax-defaulted land; and issues County business licenses.
Veterans Service Office
The CVSO is an office established by the Board of Supervisors of Madera County to assist every veteran, their dependents and survivors in presenting and pursuing any claim in establishing the veteran's right for benefits provided by law.

Across California, the University of California's 64 Cooperative Extension offices are local problem-solving centers. We are the bridge between local issues and the power of UC research. Our county-based staff is part of the community – we live and work in the areas we serve.
