Behavioral Health Services Issues RFP

Madera County Department of Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is soliciting proposals from community based organizations for new Innovation Projects (INN Projects) which will be funded by the Madera's allotment of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funding, also known as Prop 63, which California voters passed in November 2004. MHSA is funded by a 1% tax on personal incomes above a million dollars and the monies generated are used to expand and transform California's county mental health systems.

The INN Project(s) to be considered for funding must be new and innovative and add to the learning process or move the Madera County mental health system towards the development of new practices and approaches for the following purposes:

  • Increase access to underserved groups
  • Increase the quality of services, including better outcomes
  • Promote interagency collaboration
  • Increase access to services

Staff Spotlight - BHS

Beth Villanueva - BHS

How long have you worked for the County? 3 1/2 years

What do you like most about your job? I love the people I work with. There is an incredible amount of wisdom to be gained from the BHS staff.

Why did you decide to work for the County? I was encouraged by BHS staff to apply.

What is your most memorable accomplishment during your County career? I am proud to have completed the CASRA certificate program in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.

When I'm not at work you can find me... on the soccer pitch; all three of my girls play, and I am a coach and referee.

What was your first job? I did a lot of babysitting in high school, but my first official job was with Donut Inn. And yes, I still eat donuts!.

What is your favorite food? I am a carnivore, so a great steak or prime rib makes me a happy girl.

What is your favorite kind of music? I enjoy mainstream rock; Dave Matthews Band, U2, Tom Petty, and the Rolling Stones to name a few.

What is your favorite sports team? Born and raised in Los Angeles County, I follow the Dodgers of course! I am also a huge fan of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team.

If you were to travel anywhere in the world for a dream vacation, where would it be? Someday I hope to catch a few World Cup games in some exotic location.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I hope to continue working for the County at least until my youngest finishes high school.
