Behavioral Health Services Issues RFP

Madera County Department of Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is soliciting proposals from community based organizations for new Innovation Projects (INN Projects) which will be funded by the Madera's allotment of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funding, also known as Prop 63, which California voters passed in November 2004. MHSA is funded by a 1% tax on personal incomes above a million dollars and the monies generated are used to expand and transform California's county mental health systems.

The INN Project(s) to be considered for funding must be new and innovative and add to the learning process or move the Madera County mental health system towards the development of new practices and approaches for the following purposes:

  • Increase access to underserved groups
  • Increase the quality of services, including better outcomes
  • Promote interagency collaboration
  • Increase access to services

How long have you worked for the County? 1 1/2 years (presently) 3 years (previously)

What do you like most about your job? I enjoy seeing the clients succeed in their individual goals and becoming employed

Why did you decide to work for the County? I felt that it was an opportunity to assist individuals in need of resources and guidance

What is your most memorable accomplishment during your County career? Every time the clients succeed in achieving their goals (when they succeed, we too succeed)

When I'm not at work you can find me... During Little League season, at my 10 year old son's baseball games. Otherwise, at some church activity.

What was your first job? Standard Brands Paint and Home Decorating

What is your favorite food? Anything my wife cooks (she's an excellent cook)

What is your favorite kind of music? I like a little bit of everything, but particularly Tejano music

What is your favorite sports team? RAIDERS (football), Athletics (baseball), Spurs (basketball), Texas Longhorns (college)

If you were to travel anywhere in the world for a dream vacation, where would it be? Somewhere with cool weather, I don't really like warm/hot weather

Where do you see yourself in five years? I would love to continue being here at Behavioral Health and still seeing the clients succeed in achieving their goals.
